How to Set Up a Facebook Product Catalog Feed in PrestaShop

Facebook and Instagram Dynamic Product Ads are one of the most effective tools for e-commerce advertising. They automatically show users the exact products they viewed on your store — which means highly relevant ads and strong conversion rates.

But to run them, you need a Facebook Product Catalog — and to keep that catalog updated, you need a product feed from your PrestaShop store.

This guide explains how to set it up.

What Is a Facebook Product Catalog?

A Facebook Product Catalog is a container in Meta Business Manager that holds your product data: names, prices, images, URLs, availability, and more. Facebook uses this data to power:

Dynamic Product Ads — retargeting ads that show users the products they browsed
Collection Ads — immersive shopping experiences on mobile
Instagram Shopping — product tags on organic posts
Advantage+ Shopping Campaigns — Meta’s AI-powered shopping campaigns

Without a catalog, you can still run Facebook ads, but you cannot personalise them at the product level.

How Facebook Catalog Feeds Work

Instead of manually uploading products to Facebook one by one, you provide a feed URL — a link to a structured XML or CSV file hosted on your server. Facebook fetches this file on a schedule (hourly, daily, or weekly) and keeps your catalog in sync with your store.

This means price changes, new products, and stock updates flow automatically into your Facebook catalog without any manual work.

Step 1: Create a Facebook Catalog in Meta Business Manager

1. Go to business.facebook.com and open your Business Manager
2. Navigate to Commerce Manager → Catalogs
3. Click Add Catalog and choose E-commerce as the catalog type
4. Name your catalog and click Create

You now have an empty catalog. The next step is to connect it to your PrestaShop feed.

Step 2: Generate a Facebook Feed in PrestaShop

PrestaShop does not generate Facebook catalog feeds natively. You need a feed module.

XML Feeds Pro includes a ready-made Facebook Catalog template. The template maps your PrestaShop product fields to Meta’s required format automatically:

| Facebook field | PrestaShop source |
|—————|——————-|
| id | Product reference |
| title | Product name |
| description | Short or full description |
| image_link | Main product image |
| link | Product page URL |
| price | Price with currency |
| availability | Stock status |
| condition | New (configurable) |
| brand | Manufacturer |

You can customise any mapping — for example, if you want to use a different image or append UTM parameters to product URLs for tracking.

Setting Up the Feed

1. Install XML Feeds Pro in your PrestaShop back office
2. Create a new feed and select the Facebook Catalog template
3. Review the field mapping — most fields are mapped automatically
4. Set filters if needed (e.g. exclude products without images)
5. Save the feed and copy the feed URL
6. Set up CRON to update the feed automatically (every 6 hours recommended)

Step 3: Connect the Feed to Facebook Catalog

Back in Meta Business Manager:

1. Open your catalog in Commerce Manager
2. Go to Data Sources → Add Items → Use a Data Feed
3. Select Scheduled Recurring Uploads
4. Paste your PrestaShop feed URL
5. Set the fetch frequency (daily is a good starting point)
6. Click Start Upload

Facebook will fetch the feed and import your products. The first import can take 15–60 minutes depending on catalog size.

Step 4: Set Up the Meta Pixel on Your PrestaShop Store

To run Dynamic Product Ads, Facebook needs to know which products users are viewing, adding to cart, and purchasing. This requires the Meta Pixel with product events.

Install the Meta Pixel on your PrestaShop store and make sure these events are firing:

ViewContent — when a user views a product page
AddToCart — when a user adds a product to the cart
Purchase — when an order is completed

Each event should pass the product `id` that matches the id in your catalog feed. This is what allows Facebook to match user behaviour to specific products and serve personalised ads.

Step 5: Create a Dynamic Product Ads Campaign

Once your catalog is populated and your Pixel is firing:

1. Go to Ads Manager and create a new campaign
2. Select Sales as the objective
3. Choose Catalog Sales under the conversion location
4. Select your product catalog
5. Set your audience — you can target website visitors (retargeting) or broad audiences for prospecting
6. Choose your ad format — Carousel is most common for Dynamic Ads
7. Facebook will automatically populate the ad with product images, names, and prices from your catalog

Keeping Your Feed Accurate

Facebook catalog quality affects ad performance directly. Common issues to avoid:

Price mismatches — if the price in the feed does not match your store, Facebook may reject the product or penalise your account. Keep your feed updated frequently.

Missing images — products without images will not show in ads. Facebook recommends square images (1:1) at 1024x1024px minimum.

Out-of-stock products — set your feed to automatically exclude out-of-stock items or mark them as `out of stock` in the availability field. Advertising unavailable products wastes budget.

Feed errors — check the Diagnostics tab in Commerce Manager regularly for feed errors and warnings.
